Beautiful Victorian Front Yard Garden with Purple Hues

Let’s forget about winter and enjoy a tour of a Victorian home’s front yard garden by Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design that features a color palette of various purple hues. From the deep indigo of salvia to the washed-out lavender of Russian sage, this front yard enhances the overall curb appeal of the historic house.

I like a garden of messy flowers like this where you can’t tell where one variety starts and the other ends. Here, the wispy bush like flowers of a Russian sage blend in with the pink of coneflowers.

Large purple allium dance in front of pale pink peonies that are framed by spiky salvia in the background. In my opinion, the bigger the allium, the better! This flower makes such a grand architectural statement in any garden.

Pink wild geraniums can be seen just in front of the salvia. I always love pink and purple together in a garden. I’d love to walk past this front yard garden often to watch it change from season to season.

Wouldn’t it be a treat to relax on the Victorian porch enjoying the floral views in front of you? I’m sure there’s a good collection of beneficial bees and butterflies visiting during the summer months.

Here’s what the view from the porch looks like. I want my own front yard garden to look similar to this one. I wouldn’t mind if the strip of grass was replaced by a flagstone walkway. The less mowing, the better. Plus, a flower garden and stepping stones are better for managing rainwater run off. Rain doesn’t pass as easily through thick turf.

The allium still look pretty after they fade. It looks like wild geranium is spreading in front of the cement obelisk. If you like a messy cottage garden, wild geranium is a great choice to use as a filler.

  1. Thanks for the breath of Spring! Not only is it beautiful, but the aroma of those peonies wafting up onto the porch, would be heavenly. The only thing missing in this beautiful yard, is the Lavender! I can’t imagine a purple themed garden without it. My absolute favorite.
